What is workplace mental
health training?
Workplace mental health training is a type of professional development designed to help people managers and team leaders recognise, understand, and appropriately respond to mental health issues in the workplace.
With employees increasingly turning to their managers for emotional support at work, mental health training is essential to give managers the skills and confidence to have these conversations and support people effectively.
Why it matters
Workplace wellbeing training helps reduce stigma and discrimination by normalising conversations around mental health, making employees more likely to seek help when needed.
Trained managers are able to recognise early signs of mental health issues and provide timely support before things escalate, which supports the business in meeting its legal obligation to safeguard employees from any psychological risks in the workplace.
Training can also help to relieve the emotional burden on managers to support anyone in their team who may be struggling, and provide clear boundaries in terms of the level of care they can offer themselves before signposting people towards a professional.
How does it work?
Spill’s mental health training workshops for managers are written and delivered by a fully qualified Spill therapist, and take place as a group session online.
Attendees will come away from the session feeling more comfortable identifying the early stages of mental health challenges in their team, understanding how to support and signpost anyone who’s struggling, and knowing how to deal with any difficult situations that may occur.
