Spill
EAP
An honest look at Spill through the same lens we apply to every other EAP: ratings, reviews, strengths and the things people wish for.
Spill overview
Spill was founded in London in 2018 by Calvin Benton, and exists because nothing on the market worked for the startup it was built inside: helpline EAPs that almost nobody used, gated behind triage calls and session caps. Spill inverted the model: therapy first, booked by the employee, delivered fast.
Today Spill supports 600+ companies and delivers around 50,000 therapy sessions a year. Every counsellor is registered with a professional body (BACP in the UK), has a minimum of three years of academic therapy training and 200+ supervised clinical hours, and comes through a five-stage hiring process that most applicants do not pass. Counselling is never outsourced.
Employees book unlimited therapy in one click from Slack, MS Teams, SMS or email, with same-day availability from 7am to 9:30pm, 7 days a week, in 15+ languages. Spill's Trustpilot score is 4.9 from 165 reviews, with 163 of them five stars.

Counselling on Spill
There is no triage call, no referral step and no clinician gate. An employee opens Slack or MS Teams, picks a time that works, and talks to a therapist, usually the same or next day. Reviews repeatedly describe booking a session late at night and being seen at 10am the following morning.
Sessions are full 50 minute therapy sessions with the same clinical seriousness as private practice: values-based therapist matching, specialisms including bereavement, burnout, trauma and neurodiversity (including ADHD support and 25 minute neurodiversity sessions), and follow-up session summaries.
Spill also takes an explicit position on AI: employees always talk to a real human therapist. Alongside one-to-one therapy, teams get therapist-written resources, manager training and an Ask a Therapist service for anonymous questions.

Integrations
Spill lives inside Slack and MS Teams rather than a separate app: booking, nudges and resources all happen where the team already works. Email and SMS access covers non-desk teams, and setup takes a few hours, not months.
Confidentiality
Sessions are strictly confidential. Video runs on an end-to-end encrypted service, employers see aggregate usage numbers but never names, and Slack or MS Teams are only sign-in portals: no session content is ever visible to them, to the company, or to anyone at Spill.
Extras
Manager training delivered by therapists, proactive check-ins, therapy for a plus-one outside the company on some plans, legal and financial guidance, and admin tools with company budgets and transparent aggregate reporting.

Best reviews for Spill
Speed of access
The single most cited difference from other services: booking at night and being seen the next morning, sometimes the same day. For a benefit whose value is measured at the worst moment of someone's month, speed is the product.
Therapist quality and feeling heard
Reviews consistently describe therapists as kind, skilled and genuinely helpful, with several people saying a single Spill session produced breakthroughs they had chased for years.
What people wish for
Therapist continuity
Some reviewers find it hard to always see the same therapist, which can make longer-term work feel less continuous, even while noting that new therapists were still helpful. Spill's values-based matching and rebooking flow keep improving here.
Session allocations on some plans
Spill's plans are transparent about what is included, and one reviewer felt intake conversations should not count toward an allocation. It is one voice out of 165, but honesty is the point of this page: check the plan details fit how your team will use it.
In Summary
Judged by the same standards we apply to every provider on this site, Spill's case rests on three things: unlimited therapy rather than capped sessions, same-day access booked in one click from the tools people already use, and a rolling 30 day contract that makes the service earn its keep every month.
The trade-offs are honest ones. Spill is UK-first rather than a 150-country network, it is not bundled free with an insurance policy, and if your team will never use therapy, a £1-per-head helpline is cheaper shelf-ware.
But if the point of an EAP is that people use it, the usage numbers and the 4.9 Trustpilot score from the people who did are the evidence that matters. Pricing is published: from £75 a month for teams of up to 10, scaling by headcount to £395 for 101 to 200, with no exit fees.
How Spill compares to the rest of the market
Most EAPs on this site share one architecture: a phone line in front, a triage layer in the middle, and a capped number of sessions behind it, sold on price per head and renewed on inertia. Spill's architecture is the opposite: therapy in front, no gate in the middle, and unlimited sessions behind it, sold on usage and renewed monthly by choice.
That is also why the reviews read differently. Helpline EAPs are reviewed by the people who fought through them; Spill is reviewed by people who booked a session one evening and felt better the next day.
The fastest way to judge any of this is to see it: book a free 30 minute demo and watch a session get booked in one click.
