Spill's employee assistance programme (EAP) for residential care homes
The early shift starts before sunrise, and the rota never quite has enough names on it. Care home staff give residents everything, then lose them, and often grieve on the job because there's no time to grieve off it. Spill gives your team same-day therapy that fits around shifts, with counsellors who specialise in grief and compassion fatigue, from £75 a month for the whole home.
Same day counselling sessions
Rolling 30 day contract
Unlimited access from £75 per month

Proudly supporting care home staff across the UK

Why care home work wears people down
60% of care staff have experienced burnout or emotional exhaustion. In residential care, the causes are plain to see: round-the-clock rotas that stretch too few people, the loss of residents they've grown close to, and understaffing that turns every shift into a sprint.
Compassion fatigue
60% of care staff have experienced burnout or emotional exhaustion.
Boundary challenges
57% of carers feel overwhelmed because they can't switch off from work.
Financial pressures
61% of carers worry about their finances and struggle to make ends meet.
Support that helps your best carers stay
Carers who can talk through a resident's death with a grief specialist come back steadier. Supporting them well cuts sickness absence and turnover, and gives residents the continuity of familiar, unhurried faces.
Protect against compassion fatigue
Help staff process the emotional weight of caring for others before it turns into exhaustion.
Keep minds on the job
Supported staff have more attention and patience for the people who depend on them.
Reduce mental health sick days
Same-day support helps issues get dealt with early, before they become absence.

FAQs
A care home should judge an EAP on three things: whether staff on earlies, lates and nights can actually get appointments, whether counsellors specialise in grief and compassion fatigue, and whether caps or exclusions will shut out the people struggling most. Spill offers unlimited same-day sessions from 7am to 9:30pm, seven days a week, bookable by SMS or email as well as Slack and MS Teams, with counsellors in the top 5% nationally. Nobody is excluded for pre-existing or severe cases, and it's the UK's highest rated EAP on Trustpilot. Traditional helpline EAPs cost less, and that's their honest appeal, but 6 to 8 session caps and call centre access keep usage at 3 to 5%, which helps nobody on your rota.
Spill is £75 a month for the whole home, on a rolling 30 day contract. For a team of 30, that works out at £2.50 per person per month, with unlimited therapy and same-day booking for every member of staff. Compare that with the cost of covering one resignation with agency shifts. Book a demo and we'll show you how quickly it can go live.
An employee assistance programme gives care staff confidential therapy paid for by the home. Spill's version is built for shift workers: unlimited sessions with counsellors in the top 5% nationally, booked by SMS, email, Slack or MS Teams, usually for the same day. Sessions run 7am to 9:30pm, seven days a week, in more than 15 languages, so night staff and weekend staff get the same access as everyone else.
Care home work combines physical graft, emotional closeness and repeated loss, on rotas that rarely have slack. When a resident dies, staff are expected to carry on with the next round of care. It's no surprise that 60% of care staff have experienced burnout or emotional exhaustion. Left unsupported, that exhaustion becomes sickness, turnover and thinner rotas still. Same-day therapy interrupts the cycle while it's still interruptible.
Yes. Spill works for independent, family-run homes as well as groups. There's no minimum team size, one fee of £75 a month covers everyone including bank staff, and setup takes days. The rolling 30 day contract means a single home can start without a long commitment.
The care sector sees turnover of around 25% a year, and poor mental health is a major driver. Spill gives staff confidential, professional support that makes them feel genuinely cared for, which research links to greater job satisfaction and longer tenure. That helps you hold on to experienced carers.
Yes. Spill's counselling is available the same day, including evenings and weekends, because plenty of people don't work standard office hours. Our therapists are available from as early as 7am GMT to as late as 9:30pm GMT, 7 days a week, with no health assessments, waiting lists or call-backs. Employees can access support via SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams or email and book from their phone in a few clicks.
Spill offers therapy sessions in 15+ languages, so your team can speak freely with a counsellor that understands them best. Employees choose their preferred language from a drop-down when they book a session. We currently cover Armenian, Croatian, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Igbo, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Tagalog and Ukrainian. We're adding to this list all the time, so let us know if you have a request.
Yes, Spill operates in compliance with GDPR and UK data protection law. Spill is fully secure and therapy sessions are strictly confidential. Video sessions run on an end-to-end encrypted service and all messages to and from therapists are secure. We share aggregate usage data with the company (the number of people who have used Spill) but never names. Slack and MS Teams are only portals used to sign in to our confidential platform. No session content is ever visible to them, to Spill, or to your company.
