Spill's employee assistance programme (EAP) for nurseries and early years
Early years educators spend every working hour responsible for other people's children, then go home to paperwork and Ofsted prep, often on close to minimum wage. 81% say they're regularly stressed about work. Spill gives nurseries and early years settings an affordable way to look after the people doing some of the most important work there is.

Proudly supporting nurseries and early years settings across the UK

Small children, big responsibility, too little support
Early years educators carry sole legal responsibility for the safety and development of babies and very young children all day. That means intense emotional labour and constant vigilance, combined with near-minimum-wage pay and heavy Ofsted and paperwork pressure.
Widespread stress
81% of early years educators are regularly stressed about a work-related issue. (Early Years Alliance, 2023)
Anxiety and fatigue
In the past year 67% of early years staff suffered anxiety and 65% fatigue. (Early Years Alliance, 2023)
Intention to leave
35% of early years educators are considering leaving the sector due to stress and mental health. (Early Years Alliance, 2023)
Settled staff mean settled children
When a familiar face leaves a setting, children and parents feel it, and replacing a qualified educator takes months. Spill tackles the stress and anxiety behind the sector's 21% annual turnover.
Protect against compassion fatigue
Help staff process the emotional weight of caring for others before it turns into exhaustion.
Keep minds on the job
Supported staff have more attention and patience for the people who depend on them.
Reduce mental health sick days
Same-day support helps issues get dealt with early, before they become absence.
All-in-one EAP for your team
Unlimited counselling sessions
A private space for early years staff to talk through the pressures of the job or life outside it, with a fully qualified therapist. Same-day sessions after the setting closes or at weekends, with no waiting lists or forms.

Self-guided wellbeing resources
A library of practical, evidence-based resources written by licensed therapists who understand the unique pressures early years workers face. Covering over 200 topics from burnout prevention to financial wellbeing and sleep, our online resources can be accessed at any time. They're a great first step for anyone who's not quite ready to speak to a counsellor directly.
Expert guidance and training
Practical, therapist-led training workshops designed to empower staff to spot mental health presentations within nurseries, schools and universities and know how to appropriately respond. Teachers can also check in with a Spill safeguarding clinician for advice at any time.

FAQs
The best EAP for early years is one staff can use around the nursery day: same-day sessions in the evening or at weekends, booked from a phone, with counsellors who understand the pressure of childcare work. Spill is the UK's highest rated EAP on Trustpilot, with unlimited counselling from £75 a month on a rolling 30 day contract. Childcare organisations like Koru Kids use Spill to support their teams. Traditional helpline EAPs cost less per head, but they cap sessions at 6 to 8 a year and route staff to call handlers first.
Spill starts at £75 per month for your whole team, on a rolling 30 day contract you can cancel with 30 days' notice. For a 20-person setting that works out at under £4 per member of staff per month, including unlimited counselling sessions. Traditional helpline EAPs often look cheaper per head but cap or exclude actual therapy, so the real cost per session used is usually far higher. To get a tailored quote, book a free 30 minute demo.
An EAP for early years is a confidential mental health and wellbeing service that nurseries provide to their staff. An early-years-focused EAP (like Spill) should understand the pressures of sole responsibility for young children, Ofsted inspections and low pay. Spill provides same-day counselling, self-guided resources and manager training, accessible at any time.
Early years educators combine constant vigilance and emotional labour with low pay and heavy inspection pressure. The Early Years Alliance found 81% are regularly stressed about work, with anxiety and fatigue widespread. It's demanding, under-recognised work that takes a real toll.
Turnover among private early years providers runs at around 21% a year, with stress and pay driving people out, and many leaving education entirely. Spill gives staff confidential, unlimited support that makes them feel genuinely valued, helping settings hold on to qualified educators.
Yes. Spill works for single settings and childminders as well as larger nursery groups, and you can be up and running within days. Pricing starts from £75 per month on a 30 day rolling contract, with no minimum staff number, so smaller settings get the same quality of support.
