Unmind overview

Unmind is a London company founded in 2016 by Dr Nick Taylor, a former NHS clinical psychologist, and it is the most enterprise-flavoured of the UK platforms: clients include Uber, Disney, British Airways, Standard Chartered and Major League Baseball, and total funding has passed 100 million dollars, including a 35 million dollar round announced in July 2025 with TELUS Global Ventures participating.

The original product was a science-led digital wellbeing app (courses, check-ins, a Cambridge co-developed wellbeing Index). Human care arrived in February 2023 when it acquired Frankie Health and launched Unmind Talk, moving it toward an EAP replacement for enterprises.

Its current strategic bet is Nova, an AI companion with clinically designed guardrails that signposts users to therapy, coaching or crisis care.

Counselling on Unmind

Unmind Talk lets employees browse practitioner profiles and book directly in the app in about four clicks, with average waits under 48 hours and no phone triage. Unmind advertises a network of more than 90,000 licensed therapists and coaches covering 60+ languages and 140 countries.

Session numbers are set per employer as a personalised allowance rather than unlimited by default: one G2 admin describes employees hitting their session cap and paying for more themselves, while richer plans offer far more generous access.

Practitioners are described as fully accredited and quality-assured with 4.8 out of 5 average satisfaction, though the exact accreditation bar is not published, and Unmind does not advertise structured clinical pathways or session-by-session outcome reporting.

Best reviews for Unmind

Depth of science-backed content

Reviewers praise the breadth and quality of resources, rated stronger than Headspace or Calm in several comparisons, with the bite-size Daily Boost format repeatedly called out.

Enterprise-grade partnership

Client success managers, launch support and admin analytics are consistently rated excellent, and Unmind Talk wins praise for booking a therapist in minutes.

Fantastic platform, fantastic service
It's a platform that allows overall health and well-being for our people. It's intuitive and is more than traditional mental health support. Being able to choose a practitioner for talk and having unlimited access is groundbreaking.

This saved my life
I was able to book a session with a therapist in minutes just from my phone and didn't have to do any of that awkward triaging you get with a helpline. Free therapy every week has changed my life.

Bad reviews for Unmind

Navigation and platform churn

The huge library is hard to navigate, reorganisations frustrate users, and loved features like Praise and the Plus One family account were removed.

Cost versus engagement

Buyers describe it as expensive with adoption an ongoing struggle, and session caps can require paid top-ups.

Pretty expensive, adoption is hard
For our organization, it's a pretty expensive cost, even at a discounted rate. We see the value but getting employees to use it is an ongoing challenge.

Frustrating sign-in and reorganisation
I don't love the longer form course content, or the new organization of the platform. It is also always asking me to re-sign in and create a new account which is incredibly frustrating.

In Summary

Unmind is the enterprise wellbeing platform done properly: real science pedigree, content people compare favourably to Headspace, credible therapy access since the Frankie Health acquisition, and account management big companies rate highly.

The costs are real too, in both senses: buyers call it expensive, adoption takes ongoing effort, session allowances cap out, and the platform reshuffles have burned goodwill. Review volume has also thinned since 2024, so current sentiment data is limited.

The AI-first pivot with Nova is a bet worth watching: it may deepen support or it may put a chatbot between employees and the therapy they actually need.

How Unmind compares to Spill

Unmind leads with content and measurement, adding therapy through Unmind Talk with per-employer session caps that can require paid top-ups. Spill leads with the therapy itself: unlimited sessions with BACP-registered counsellors from the top 5 percent of applicants, booked in one click inside Slack or MS Teams, usually happening the same day.

Spill also stakes an explicit position on AI: employees always talk to a real human therapist, never a chatbot. And where Unmind is enterprise quote-based, Spill publishes its pricing, from £75 a month on a rolling 30 day contract with no exit fees, live within hours.

Choose Unmind if you are a large enterprise wanting a science-led wellbeing platform with measurement and content in one. Choose Spill if you want unlimited human therapy first, at published pricing a company of any size can buy.
