YuLife
EAP
See a comprehensive overview of the pros and cons of YuLife and the YuMatter EAP bundled with its insurance.
YuLife overview
YuLife is a London insurtech founded in 2016: a gamified wellbeing app (steps, meditations and quests earn YuCoin redeemable for vouchers) bundled with group life insurance, income protection and critical illness cover. It serves around 1,200 employer customers including Co-op, Santander and Havas, raised a 120 million dollar Series C at an 800 million dollar valuation, and appointed a new CEO, Tal Gilbert, in January 2026.
Its 4.9 Trustpilot score is genuinely impressive, but read what it rates: the rewards app and the support team, not counselling. The EAP, branded YuMatter, is not delivered by YuLife at all.
Per YuLife's own help pages (updated October 2025), the EAP behind any given policy is white-labelled from one of four third parties: Workplace Options, YourHalo (with healthcare rm), Lyra Wellbeing, or Health Assured on MetLife-underwritten schemes. Which one your employees get depends on which insurance scheme you bought.

Counselling on YuLife
Employees reach the EAP through the app's Wellbeing Hub, then phone or webchat with the relevant partner using a company code. YuMatter by Workplace Options provides a clinical assessment plus up to 4 follow-up counselling sessions; YuMatter Plus by YourHalo provides an assessment plus up to 8 sessions of solution-focused counselling or CBT where clinically appropriate.
Counsellors are employed by the partner network, never by YuLife, and family coverage rules differ between variants. Helplines run 24/7, and critical incident support is available at an extra fee on the Workplace Options option.
The practical consequence: the counselling experience your team gets is really a review of Workplace Options, YourHalo, Lyra or Health Assured, with YuLife's app as the front door. Session caps of 4 to 8 are at the low end of the market.
Other services on YuLife
Integrations
Strong on the wellness side: Apple Health, Google Fit, Fitbit, Garmin and Samsung Health wearable syncing (with recurring Android sync complaints), plus an HR portal with engagement data. No Slack or MS Teams workplace integration for the EAP itself.
Confidentiality
EAP confidentiality sits with the third-party providers under their own clinical governance; YuLife markets the service as fully confidential.
Extras
Virtual GP access, will writing, bereavement support (scheme-dependent), a preventative AI health-risk feature launched June 2025, and the YuCoin rewards engine that drives most of its reviews.

Best reviews for YuLife
Rewards drive real habit change
Reviewers consistently say the YuCoin challenges, walks and meditations genuinely motivated them to move more, with vouchers as a tangible payoff. Many call it their favourite work benefit.
Fast, human customer support
A large share of five-star reviews name individual support agents resolving app issues within hours via chat.
Bad reviews for YuLife
Rewards devaluation anger
A wave of one-star reviews in autumn 2024 followed a points-system change that cut coin earnings and raised redemption thresholds without warning, with users saying they quit the app over it.
Chat-only support and sync bugs
Complainants report unanswered calls, chat-only escalation with no ownership, and Android step-tracking that fails with Samsung watches and Google Fit despite repeated promised fixes.
In Summary
YuLife is a very good insurtech. If you are buying group life or income protection anyway, getting a genuinely engaging wellness app on top is real added value.
But as mental health provision, it is an insurance rider: counselling capped at 4 to 8 sessions, delivered by whichever of four third parties sits behind your particular scheme, reached through a phone line behind an app banner.
Buyers should ask the question YuLife's own help pages answer: who actually delivers our EAP, and what exactly do our people get when they are struggling rather than stepping?
How YuLife compares to Spill
This is a rewards-app-versus-therapy comparison. YuLife's EAP is a white-labelled phone service with 4 to 8 capped sessions delivered by a third party. Spill is the therapy itself: unlimited sessions with BACP-registered counsellors, booked in one click inside Slack or MS Teams, usually happening the same day, delivered by Spill's own vetted team rather than whoever sits behind the policy.
Plenty of companies run both: YuLife for insurance and engagement, Spill for actual mental health support. Spill's pricing is published, from £75 a month on a rolling 30 day contract you can leave any month, with no exit fees, and it switches on in hours.
Choose YuLife if you are buying group life insurance and want an engagement app with a basic EAP folded in. Choose Spill if you want unlimited, same-day therapy from a named provider, not a capped helpline behind an insurance policy.
