Spill's employee assistance programme (EAP) for builders & contractors
Payment chains that stall, weather that wrecks the programme, and half the crew self-employed with no safety net. Building work piles pressure on people long before anyone talks about it. Spill gives everyone on your books, subcontractors included, same-day access to a qualified therapist. They book by text from their own phone, nobody on site knows, and it costs £75 a month for the whole team.
Same day counselling sessions
Rolling 30 day contract
Unlimited access from £75 per month

Proudly supporting building crews across the UK

The pressures building crews carry from site to site
On average two construction workers take their own life every working day in the UK (Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity, 2024). Behind that number sit payment chains that stall wages, weather that wrecks schedules, and self-employed workers with no sick pay to fall back on. Support has to be easy to reach and completely private, or it won't get used.
Suicide risk
Men in construction are 3.7x more likely to die by suicide than the male national average. (ONS, via Mates in Mind 2022)
Daily stress
58% of built-environment workers experience stress often, and 50% experience anxiety often. (CIOB, 2025)
Two lives a day
On average, two construction workers take their own life every working day in the UK. (Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity, 2024)
What proper support does for a building firm
Crews that are sleeping, coping and turning up do safer, faster work, and they stay. When support is private and bookable by text, people actually use it before problems become absences.
Build resilience on the front line
Give your team practical tools to handle rush-hour pressure, difficult customers and long days on their feet.
Keep the team sharp
Staff who get support for personal and work struggles bring more energy to every shift.
Cut short-notice absence
Early support stops small struggles snowballing into last-minute call-outs and long sick leave.
All-in-one EAP for your team
Unlimited counselling sessions
A completely private way for site and office staff to talk to a qualified therapist, booked by SMS or email with no forms and nobody on site any the wiser. Same-day sessions from 7am to 9:30pm, seven days a week.

Self-guided wellbeing resources
A library of practical, evidence-based resources written by licensed therapists who understand the unique pressures construction workers face. Covering over 200 topics from stress and anxiety to financial wellbeing and sleep, our online resources can be accessed at any time. They're a great first step for anyone who's not quite ready to speak to a counsellor directly.
Expert guidance and training
Practical, therapist-led training workshops designed to empower staff to spot mental health presentations within nurseries, schools and universities and know how to appropriately respond. Teachers can also check in with a Spill safeguarding clinician for advice at any time.

FAQs
The best EAP for a building firm is one your crew will actually use. That means four things: total privacy, because nobody wants the site manager knowing they're struggling; booking from any phone, since most of your people aren't at a desk; no cap on sessions; and cover for the subcontractors on your books, not just PAYE staff. Spill does all four, with therapy from the top 5% of counsellors, same-day sessions from 7am to 9:30pm, seven days a week, and support in 15+ languages. It's the UK's highest rated EAP on Trustpilot. To be fair, traditional helpline EAPs are cheaper per head, but with call centres and 6 to 8 session caps, only 3 to 5% of employees ever use them.
Spill costs £75 a month for your whole team, on a rolling 30 day contract with no lock-in. For a firm of 12, that's £6.25 per person per month, and it covers unlimited therapy sessions, not the 6 to 8 you'd get from a traditional helpline EAP. Subcontractors on your books are covered too. Book a demo and we'll show you how it works for your crew.
Spill is a modern EAP built for teams that don't sit at desks. Anyone at your firm can book a therapy session by text, email, Slack or Teams from their own phone, and see a therapist the same day, between 7am and 9:30pm, seven days a week. Sessions are unlimited, therapists are in the top 5% of counsellors, and nobody at the firm ever knows who's used it. You only see aggregate numbers.
It gets used, which is the whole point. On average two construction workers take their own life every working day in the UK (Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity, 2024), and the pressures behind that, stalled payments, wrecked schedules and self-employed insecurity, rarely get talked about on site. When someone can text for a session and see a therapist the same day, problems get dealt with before they become crises or absences.
Yes. Plenty of small building firms and sole traders with a few staff use Spill. There's no minimum headcount, it's £75 a month for everyone on your books, and you can be up and running in days, not months. The rolling 30 day contract means no long commitment.
Construction turnover runs at around 35% a year, and mental ill-health drives significant absence and lost talent. Spill gives workers confidential, unlimited support that's easy to access from a phone. Feeling genuinely cared for is linked to better retention.
Yes. Spill's counselling is available the same day, including evenings and weekends, because plenty of people don't work standard office hours. Our therapists are available from as early as 7am GMT to as late as 9:30pm GMT, 7 days a week, with no health assessments, waiting lists or call-backs. Employees can access support via SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams or email and book from their phone in a few clicks.
Spill offers therapy sessions in 15+ languages, so your team can speak freely with a counsellor that understands them best. Employees choose their preferred language from a drop-down when they book a session. We currently cover Armenian, Croatian, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Igbo, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Tagalog and Ukrainian. We're adding to this list all the time, so let us know if you have a request.
Yes, Spill operates in compliance with GDPR and UK data protection law. Spill is fully secure and therapy sessions are strictly confidential. Video sessions run on an end-to-end encrypted service and all messages to and from therapists are secure. We share aggregate usage data with the company (the number of people who have used Spill) but never names. Slack and MS Teams are only portals used to sign in to our confidential platform. No session content is ever visible to them, to Spill, or to your company.
