Spill's employee assistance programme (EAP) for grocery & supermarkets
The delivery lorry arrives before sunrise, the queues never really stop, and by mid-afternoon someone's already been shouted at over the till. Supermarket work is physically repetitive and emotionally bruising, and most support schemes never reach the shop floor. Spill does: same-day therapy around any shift, booked by SMS from a personal phone, for £75 a month for the whole team.
Same day counselling sessions
Rolling 30 day contract
Unlimited access from £75 per month

Proudly supporting supermarket staff across the UK

The pressures facing supermarket staff
30% of retailers flagged store abuse as a top issue impacting staff wellbeing. Checkout staff take the brunt of it, on top of early deliveries and hours of physically repetitive work. Being shouted at is not something people should simply have to absorb.
High pressure environment
54% of retail workers have considered resigning as a result of chronic workplace stress.
Customer hostility
30% of retailers flagged store abuse as one of the top issues impacting staff wellbeing.
Financial strain
52% of retail workers say the rising cost of living is impacting their mental health.
The commercial case for grocery teams
Vacancies on the shop floor mean longer queues, gaps on shelves and pressure on everyone left behind. Staff who get real support after difficult incidents stay longer and keep standards up through the hardest weeks.
Build resilience on the front line
Give your team practical tools to handle rush-hour pressure, difficult customers and long days on their feet.
Keep the team sharp
Staff who get support for personal and work struggles bring more energy to every shift.
Cut short-notice absence
Early support stops small struggles snowballing into last-minute call-outs and long sick leave.
All-in-one EAP for your team
Unlimited counselling sessions
A private space for staff to work through anything, from a shift full of difficult customers to money worries at home, with a fully qualified therapist. Same-day availability around rotas, including evenings and weekends, with no waiting lists or forms.

Self-guided wellbeing resources
A library of practical, evidence-based resources written by licensed therapists who understand the unique pressures retail workers face. Covering over 200 topics from burnout prevention to financial wellbeing and sleep, our online resources can be accessed at any time. They're a great first step for anyone who's not quite ready to speak to a counsellor directly.
Expert guidance and training
Practical, therapist-led training workshops designed to empower staff to spot mental health presentations within nurseries, schools and universities and know how to appropriately respond. Teachers can also check in with a Spill safeguarding clinician for advice at any time.

FAQs
For supermarket teams, the best EAP is one shop-floor staff can use without a desk: SMS booking from their own phone, therapist hours that fit early and late shifts, and no session caps that cut support short. Spill offers exactly that, with therapists available 7am to 9:30pm, seven days a week, unlimited same-day sessions, support in 15+ languages and only the top 5% of counsellors who apply. It's the UK's highest rated EAP on Trustpilot, supporting 30,000+ employees. Traditional helpline EAPs sound similar on paper, but they run on call centres, 6 to 8 session caps and 2 to 5 year lock-ins, and only 3 to 5% of staff ever use them.
Spill costs £75 a month for the whole team, flat. For an 18-person store team, that's around £4.17 per person per month, and it covers unlimited therapy sessions rather than a fixed allowance. The rolling 30 day contract means no lock-in and no penalty for changing your mind. Book a demo and we'll show you the numbers for your store.
An employee assistance programme gives staff free, confidential mental health support paid for by the business. Spill's EAP offers unlimited one-to-one therapy, usually same-day, with therapists available 7am to 9:30pm every day. Staff on the shop floor book by SMS, while office teams can use Slack, MS Teams or email, so everyone gets the same access to help.
Early deliveries, physically repetitive work and abuse at the checkout wear people down in different ways, and 30% of retailers flagged store abuse as a top issue impacting staff wellbeing. Without support, a bad incident at the till follows someone home. Therapy gives staff a place to process it, so one awful shift doesn't become a resignation.
Yes, independent grocers and single stores are very welcome. There's no minimum team size, the price is £75 a month for the whole team, and setup takes days. You get the same therapists and unlimited sessions as the national chains, on a contract you can end any month.
Staff turnover in UK retail runs at over 33% per year, costing thousands per leaver in recruitment and onboarding, and poor mental health is a leading factor behind exits. Spill gives your team confidential, professional support that makes them feel genuinely cared for, which is directly linked to greater job satisfaction and longer tenure.
Yes. Spill's counselling is available the same day, including evenings and weekends, because plenty of people don't work standard office hours. Our therapists are available from as early as 7am GMT to as late as 9:30pm GMT, 7 days a week, with no health assessments, waiting lists or call-backs. Employees can access support via SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams or email and book from their phone in a few clicks.
Spill offers therapy sessions in 15+ languages, so your team can speak freely with a counsellor that understands them best. Employees choose their preferred language from a drop-down when they book a session. We currently cover Armenian, Croatian, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Igbo, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Tagalog and Ukrainian. We're adding to this list all the time, so let us know if you have a request.
Yes, Spill operates in compliance with GDPR and UK data protection law. Spill is fully secure and therapy sessions are strictly confidential. Video sessions run on an end-to-end encrypted service and all messages to and from therapists are secure. We share aggregate usage data with the company (the number of people who have used Spill) but never names. Slack and MS Teams are only portals used to sign in to our confidential platform. No session content is ever visible to them, to Spill, or to your company.
