Spill's employee assistance programme (EAP) for hospitals
Understaffed wards, back-to-back night shifts, and days that hold more trauma and loss than most people see in a lifetime. Hospital staff carry an enormous amount, and a poster on the noticeboard doesn't touch it. Spill gives your team same-day therapy that works around shift patterns, with counsellors who specialise in trauma, grief and compassion fatigue, from £75 a month for the whole team.
Same day counselling sessions
Rolling 30 day contract
Unlimited access from £75 per month

Proudly supporting hospital staff across the UK

Why hospital work asks so much of people
63% of trainee doctors are at moderate or high risk of burnout (GMC National Training Survey, 2024). On understaffed wards that risk isn't limited to doctors: nurses, healthcare assistants and support staff absorb trauma and loss on every shift, often with nowhere to put it.
Burnout at work
30% of NHS staff often or always feel burnt out because of work, rising to nearly 40% of ambulance staff. (NHS Staff Survey, 2024)
Made unwell by stress
41% of NHS staff felt unwell in the past year as a result of work-related stress. (NHS Staff Survey, 2024)
Trainees at risk
63% of trainee doctors are at moderate or high risk of burnout. (GMC National Training Survey, 2024)
The case for supporting hospital staff properly
Staff who can process a hard shift with a therapist that same week recover faster and stay longer. That means safer wards, better continuity of care for patients and fewer expensive agency gaps to fill.
Protect against compassion fatigue
Help staff process the emotional weight of caring for others before it turns into exhaustion.
Keep minds on the job
Supported staff have more attention and patience for the people who depend on them.
Reduce mental health sick days
Same-day support helps issues get dealt with early, before they become absence.

A confidential space for clinical and non-clinical staff to decompress with a fully qualified therapist, including specialists in trauma and grief. Same-day sessions fit around shifts and on-call, with no waiting lists or referral forms.

FAQs
Hospitals should judge an EAP on three criteria: whether appointments fit around shifts including nights, whether counsellors genuinely specialise in trauma and grief, and whether there are caps or exclusions hiding in the contract. Spill offers unlimited same-day sessions from 7am to 9:30pm, seven days a week, with counsellors in the top 5% nationally, and no one is excluded for pre-existing or severe cases. It's the UK's highest rated EAP on Trustpilot. To be fair to traditional helpline EAPs, they cost less upfront. But 6 to 8 session caps, call centre triage and 2 to 5 year lock-ins are why their usage sits at just 3 to 5%, which is a poor return on any budget.
Spill is £75 a month for your whole team on a rolling 30 day contract. For a ward or department of 40, that's under £2 per person per month, and everyone gets unlimited therapy with no session caps or exclusions. Compare that with the cost of one shift covered by agency staff. Book a demo and we'll walk you through it.
An EAP gives hospital staff confidential mental health support funded by their employer. Spill's version skips the call centre entirely: staff book unlimited sessions directly via Slack, MS Teams, SMS or email, usually for the same day, with counsellors in the top 5% nationally. Support runs 7am to 9:30pm, seven days a week, in more than 15 languages, so nights and weekends aren't a barrier.
Hospital work exposes people to trauma and loss as a matter of routine, on wards that rarely have enough hands. The GMC found 63% of trainee doctors are at moderate or high risk of burnout, and the pressure spreads well beyond doctors. Without proper support, exhaustion turns into absence, errors and early exits from the profession. Same-day therapy gives staff somewhere to take a hard shift before it hardens into something worse.
Yes. Spill suits smaller hospitals, private units and individual departments as much as large trusts. There's no minimum headcount, it's £75 a month for the whole team, and setup takes days. The rolling 30 day contract means you can try it without a long commitment.
Poor staff health, wellbeing and turnover is estimated to cost the NHS over £12bn a year, and burnout is a leading reason clinicians leave. Spill gives staff confidential, unlimited support that makes them feel genuinely cared for, which is linked to better retention and fewer mental health sick days.
Yes. Spill's counselling is available the same day, including evenings and weekends, because plenty of people don't work standard office hours. Our therapists are available from as early as 7am GMT to as late as 9:30pm GMT, 7 days a week, with no health assessments, waiting lists or call-backs. Employees can access support via SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams or email and book from their phone in a few clicks.
Spill offers therapy sessions in 15+ languages, so your team can speak freely with a counsellor that understands them best. Employees choose their preferred language from a drop-down when they book a session. We currently cover Armenian, Croatian, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Igbo, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Tagalog and Ukrainian. We're adding to this list all the time, so let us know if you have a request.
Yes, Spill operates in compliance with GDPR and UK data protection law. Spill is fully secure and therapy sessions are strictly confidential. Video sessions run on an end-to-end encrypted service and all messages to and from therapists are secure. We share aggregate usage data with the company (the number of people who have used Spill) but never names. Slack and MS Teams are only portals used to sign in to our confidential platform. No session content is ever visible to them, to Spill, or to your company.
