Spill's employee assistance programme (EAP) for online & distance learning
Another day of teaching to a grid of cameras, some of them switched off. Online education teams deal with screen fatigue, isolation from colleagues and the constant pressure to keep remote students engaged, often without a staffroom to decompress in. Spill gives online and distance learning teams unlimited counselling with same-day availability, booked through Slack, MS Teams, SMS or email, for £75 a month across the whole team.
Same day counselling sessions
Rolling 30 day contract
Unlimited access from £75 per month

Proudly supporting online education teams across the UK

Why remote education work is uniquely tiring
Around 30% of teachers leave within their first five years, according to the DfE, and plenty of them move into online education looking for something more sustainable. Providers that want to be that better option need to take screen fatigue, isolation and engagement pressure seriously, or they'll see the same churn.
Work-related stress
78% of education staff reported mental-health symptoms caused by their work, rising to 84% of school leaders. (Education Support, Teacher Wellbeing Index 2024)
Depression in HE
53% of university staff showed probable signs of depression as a result of work pressures. (Education Support, 2021)
Excessive hours
Full-time teachers work an average of 52.4 hours a week, above the 48-hour legal limit. (DfE, via NEU 2024)
How Spill supports distributed education teams
Remote teams can't rely on corridor conversations to spot someone struggling. Spill gives online providers a support system that reaches every employee wherever they work, protecting retention and the quality of teaching your students see.
Build emotional resilience
Give staff tools to manage workload stress and the emotional demands of the role.
More energy for the work that matters
When personal struggles are supported, people show up fully for pupils, students and causes.
Fewer stress-related absences
Early, unlimited support catches problems before they become long-term leave.
All-in-one EAP for your team
Unlimited counselling sessions
A private space for teachers, lecturers and support staff to talk through workload, behaviour or anything from life outside school, with a fully qualified therapist. Same-day sessions run before school, after school, at weekends and through the holidays.

Self-guided wellbeing resources
A library of practical, evidence-based resources written by licensed therapists who understand the unique pressures education workers face. Covering over 200 topics from burnout prevention to workload stress and sleep, our online resources can be accessed at any time. They're a great first step for anyone who's not quite ready to speak to a counsellor directly.
Expert guidance and training
Practical, therapist-led training workshops designed to empower staff to spot mental health presentations within nurseries, schools and universities and know how to appropriately respond. Teachers can also check in with a Spill safeguarding clinician for advice at any time.

FAQs
For a distributed team, the best EAP is remote-native: no phone queues, no office dependency, support that arrives through the tools people already use. Spill is booked through Slack, MS Teams, SMS or email, with same-day appointments, unlimited sessions and therapists available 7am to 9:30pm GMT, seven days a week, in 15+ languages. Counsellors sit in the top 5% of registered practitioners, and Spill is the UK's highest rated EAP on Trustpilot, supporting 30,000+ employees including teams at FourthRev and EduMe. Traditional helpline EAPs are cheaper, and that's the fair caveat. They're also call-centre based, capped at 6 to 8 sessions, and see 3 to 5% usage, which suits a remote team even less than an office one.
£75 a month covers the whole team, on a rolling 30 day contract. For a 12-person online education provider, that's £6.25 per person per month, with unlimited counselling sessions for everyone. There are no per-session charges and no 2 to 5 year lock-in. Book a demo and we'll show you how quickly a remote team can be up and running.
Spill is a mental health benefit that works the way remote teams do. Every employee gets unlimited therapy sessions, bookable through Slack, MS Teams, SMS or email, with same-day availability. Therapists are in the top 5% of registered counsellors, work 7am to 9:30pm GMT, seven days a week, and offer therapy in 15+ languages, which matters for distributed teams. It costs £75 a month for the whole team.
Screen-based teaching is draining in a way classroom teaching isn't: all the performance, none of the energy back from the room. Add isolation from colleagues and relentless engagement pressure, and it's easy to see why people burn out quietly. With around 30% of teachers leaving within their first five years, per the DfE, retention is the sector's known weak spot. Accessible, unlimited therapy helps close it.
Yes. Online education providers are often small, and Spill has no minimum team size. It's £75 a month for the whole team, launch takes days, and the rolling 30 day contract means a growing provider isn't committing to years of spend.
Around 30% of teachers leave within their first five years, and two-thirds of university staff say they're likely to leave the sector within five. Spill gives staff confidential, unlimited support that makes them feel genuinely valued, which is linked to greater job satisfaction and longer tenure. That helps you hold on to experienced educators at every level.
Yes. Spill's counselling is available the same day, including evenings and weekends, because plenty of people don't work standard office hours. Our therapists are available from as early as 7am GMT to as late as 9:30pm GMT, 7 days a week, with no health assessments, waiting lists or call-backs. Employees can access support via SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams or email and book from their phone in a few clicks.
Spill offers therapy sessions in 15+ languages, so your team can speak freely with a counsellor that understands them best. Employees choose their preferred language from a drop-down when they book a session. We currently cover Armenian, Croatian, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Igbo, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Tagalog and Ukrainian. We're adding to this list all the time, so let us know if you have a request.
Yes, Spill operates in compliance with GDPR and UK data protection law. Spill is fully secure and therapy sessions are strictly confidential. Video sessions run on an end-to-end encrypted service and all messages to and from therapists are secure. We share aggregate usage data with the company (the number of people who have used Spill) but never names. Slack and MS Teams are only portals used to sign in to our confidential platform. No session content is ever visible to them, to Spill, or to your company.
