Spill's employee assistance programme (EAP) for pharmacies
Community pharmacies are supposed to take pressure off the rest of the system. Instead, the pressure keeps landing on them: rising prescription volumes, patients with nowhere else to turn and a workforce shortage that never seems to ease. Spill gives pharmacy teams same-day therapy that fits around opening hours, with counsellors who specialise in burnout, from £75 a month for the whole team.
Same day counselling sessions
Rolling 30 day contract
Unlimited access from £75 per month

Proudly supporting pharmacy teams across the UK

What's really weighing on pharmacy teams
41% of NHS staff felt unwell in the past year as a result of work-related stress (NHS Staff Survey, 2024). Community pharmacy carries a familiar version of that strain: relentless prescription volume, patients bringing their frustration to the counter, and too few colleagues to share it with.
Burnout at work
30% of NHS staff often or always feel burnt out because of work, rising to nearly 40% of ambulance staff. (NHS Staff Survey, 2024)
Made unwell by stress
41% of NHS staff felt unwell in the past year as a result of work-related stress. (NHS Staff Survey, 2024)
Trainees at risk
63% of trainee doctors are at moderate or high risk of burnout. (GMC National Training Survey, 2024)
Support that keeps your pharmacy running
A pharmacist who can offload to a therapist this week, not next month, makes fewer errors and takes fewer sick days. Supported teams also stay, which matters when replacements are so hard to find.
Protect against compassion fatigue
Help staff process the emotional weight of caring for others before it turns into exhaustion.
Keep minds on the job
Supported staff have more attention and patience for the people who depend on them.
Reduce mental health sick days
Same-day support helps issues get dealt with early, before they become absence.

FAQs
Judge an EAP for your pharmacy on three things: can staff get an appointment around opening hours, do the counsellors understand patient-facing pressure, and are there caps or exclusions that block the people who need it most. Spill offers unlimited same-day sessions from 7am to 9:30pm, seven days a week, with counsellors in the top 5% nationally, and pre-existing or severe cases are never excluded. It's the UK's highest rated EAP on Trustpilot. Traditional helpline EAPs have their place if budget is the only criterion, but 6 to 8 session caps, call centre queues and long lock-ins are why usage typically sits at 3 to 5%. Support your team won't use isn't support.
Spill is £75 a month for the whole team on a rolling 30 day contract. For a pharmacy team of 15, that's £5 per person per month, covering unlimited therapy with same-day availability and no caps. There's nothing extra to pay when someone actually uses it. Book a demo and we'll talk you through setup, which takes days.
An employee assistance programme gives your team confidential therapy paid for by the business. Spill's approach removes the usual friction: no call centres, no forms, no six-session limit. Staff book directly via Slack, MS Teams, SMS or email and usually see a counsellor the same day. Counsellors are in the top 5% nationally, sessions run 7am to 9:30pm seven days a week, and support is available in more than 15 languages.
Pharmacy teams absorb pressure from every direction: prescription volumes that keep climbing, patients who arrive stressed and leave their stress at the counter, and vacancies that never get filled. In the NHS, 41% of staff felt unwell in the past year because of work-related stress, and community pharmacy knows the feeling. Without support, that stress becomes absence and attrition in a sector that can't afford either.
Yes. Independent pharmacies are a natural fit for Spill. There's no minimum team size, the flat £75 a month covers everyone, and you can launch within days. The rolling 30 day contract means a single branch can try it without any long-term commitment.
Poor staff health, wellbeing and turnover is estimated to cost the NHS over £12bn a year, and burnout is a leading reason clinicians leave. Spill gives staff confidential, unlimited support that makes them feel genuinely cared for, which is linked to better retention and fewer mental health sick days.
Yes. Spill's counselling is available the same day, including evenings and weekends, because plenty of people don't work standard office hours. Our therapists are available from as early as 7am GMT to as late as 9:30pm GMT, 7 days a week, with no health assessments, waiting lists or call-backs. Employees can access support via SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams or email and book from their phone in a few clicks.
Spill offers therapy sessions in 15+ languages, so your team can speak freely with a counsellor that understands them best. Employees choose their preferred language from a drop-down when they book a session. We currently cover Armenian, Croatian, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Igbo, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Tagalog and Ukrainian. We're adding to this list all the time, so let us know if you have a request.
Yes, Spill operates in compliance with GDPR and UK data protection law. Spill is fully secure and therapy sessions are strictly confidential. Video sessions run on an end-to-end encrypted service and all messages to and from therapists are secure. We share aggregate usage data with the company (the number of people who have used Spill) but never names. Slack and MS Teams are only portals used to sign in to our confidential platform. No session content is ever visible to them, to Spill, or to your company.
