Spill's employee assistance programme (EAP) for social welfare charities
Frontline exposure to hardship doesn't stay at work. Your team hears stories of poverty and homelessness every day, demand keeps rising, and vicarious trauma builds quietly in the background. Meanwhile the people doing the supporting rarely get supported themselves. Spill changes that: unlimited same-day therapy for your whole team, with counsellors who specialise in vicarious trauma and burnout, bookable in the tools you already use.
Same day counselling sessions
Rolling 30 day contract
Unlimited access from £75 per month

Proudly supporting social welfare teams across the UK

Why social welfare work asks so much of your team
Rising demand means caseloads grow faster than teams do, and constant exposure to hardship leaves its mark. The pressure is visible across the sector: only 36% of charity workers feel their workload is achievable, down from 53% in 2019 (Charity Well, 2025).
Rising burnout
30% of UK charities reported a rise in staff burnout or exhaustion over the past year. (Pro Bono Economics / NTU, 2023)
Unmanageable workloads
Only 36% of charity workers feel their workload is achievable, down from 53% in 2019. (Charity Well, 2025)
Planning to leave
60% of charity workers plan to change job within the next year. (CharityJob Pay & Retention Report, 2024)
Real support for frontline teams
People who spend their days alongside poverty and homelessness need somewhere to put what they carry. Supporting them properly protects your service quality, reduces sick leave and turnover, and honours the values your charity was built on.

FAQs
Start with the criteria that matter for frontline work: counsellors trained in vicarious trauma, grief and burnout, a budget you can justify to trustees, and no multi-year lock-in. Spill meets all three. It's the UK's highest rated EAP on Trustpilot, offering unlimited sessions with same-day availability from the top 5% of registered counsellors, available 7am to 9:30pm, seven days a week, in 15+ languages. The whole team is covered for £75 a month on a rolling 30 day contract. Traditional helpline EAPs cost less upfront, but with 6 to 8 session caps, call centre queues and 3 to 5% usage, they rarely help the people who need them.
Spill is £75 a month for the whole team. For a poverty or homelessness charity with 15 staff, that works out at £5 per person per month for unlimited counselling and same-day availability. There's no lock-in, just a rolling 30 day contract, which makes it a straightforward line to defend to a board. Book a demo and we'll show you how it works for your team.
An EAP gives your staff confidential access to professional mental health support, funded by the charity. For social welfare teams, it's a place to process frontline exposure to hardship and the weight of rising demand. With Spill, staff book unlimited sessions themselves through Slack, MS Teams, SMS or email, and can usually see a counsellor the same day.
Hearing stories of poverty and homelessness day after day builds vicarious trauma, and rising demand means there's rarely time to recover between cases. It adds up: only 36% of charity workers feel their workload is achievable, down from 53% in 2019 (Charity Well, 2025). Easy access to a counsellor helps your team process the work before it becomes a crisis.
Yes. Plenty of small local welfare charities use Spill. There's no minimum team size, it costs £75 a month for everyone, and you can be live within days. The contract rolls monthly, so you can cancel with 30 days' notice if it's not right.
The charity sector has one of the highest turnover rates of any sector, at around 18% a year. Spill gives staff confidential, unlimited support that makes them feel genuinely cared for, which is linked to greater job satisfaction and longer tenure. That keeps the people who power your mission.
Yes. Spill's counselling is available the same day, including evenings and weekends, because plenty of people don't work standard office hours. Our therapists are available from as early as 7am GMT to as late as 9:30pm GMT, 7 days a week, with no health assessments, waiting lists or call-backs. Employees can access support via SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams or email and book from their phone in a few clicks.
Spill offers therapy sessions in 15+ languages, so your team can speak freely with a counsellor that understands them best. Employees choose their preferred language from a drop-down when they book a session. We currently cover Armenian, Croatian, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Igbo, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Tagalog and Ukrainian. We're adding to this list all the time, so let us know if you have a request.
Yes, Spill operates in compliance with GDPR and UK data protection law. Spill is fully secure and therapy sessions are strictly confidential. Video sessions run on an end-to-end encrypted service and all messages to and from therapists are secure. We share aggregate usage data with the company (the number of people who have used Spill) but never names. Slack and MS Teams are only portals used to sign in to our confidential platform. No session content is ever visible to them, to Spill, or to your company.
